NightOwl to swoop into WA market following agreement with Viva Energy

Viva Energy Australia and NightOwl Convenience have announced the signing of an Agency Deed that will see NightOwl operating five Shell-branded service-station sites within the next 12 months, and enter the Western-Australian market for the first time.

Viva Energy Business Manager Jennifer Gray says the company is excited to be working with NightOwl, which has already spread its wings across the Queensland and NSW convenience markets for more than 40 years.

“Viva Energy is looking forward to working with NightOwl to develop and grow a fuel and convenience offer, initially starting with five sites, but with scope to develop many more,” Ms Gray said.

“We see significant opportunities in the convenience market and we are very pleased to have NightOwl on board.

“Early this year, we opened our first service-station site under a commission-agent model in Aratula, Queensland, closely followed by a store in Truganina, Victoria, and most recently Blair Athol, South Australia.”

NightOwl has been in the convenience market for more than 40 years and currently operates a network of 70-plus convenience stores in both Queensland and NSW. With its distinctive yellow logo, NightOwl is well known for providing traditional grocery items, fresh fruit and vegetables and hot food 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

NightOwl Franchisor Adam Adams says he is excited to join forces with Viva Energy, the exclusive licensee to the Shell brand in Australia.

“The opportunity to work with Viva Energy is a significant step for us and we are confident that we will be offering customers a unique market proposition,” he said.

“Combining convenience and fuel sales is a proven and highly successful model, so we are delighted to have signed this deal.

“We’ve had a desire to enter the WA market for some time now and this deal also means we can make this wish a reality.

“We look forward to opening our first store with Viva Energy in Noosaville, Queensland, later this year, followed by sites across Metro Perth, including Maddington, Ravenswood, Bellevue and Redcliffe over the ensuing months.”

Viva Energy is the exclusive licensee to the Shell brand in Australia and was launched in 2014. In addition to its 950-plus Shell-branded service-station network and its Geelong refinery in Victoria, Viva Energy operates aviation, bulk fuels, bitumen, marine, chemicals and lubricants businesses supported by more than 20 storage terminals across the country.
