Mars Wrigley’s gum factory receives $6.5m boost

Mars Wrigley Australia has invested $6.5 million into a new production line, expected to increase capacity at its gum and mints factory in Asquith by more than 60%.

Located north of Sydney, the Asquith facility is solely responsible for manufacturing all locally made Mars Wrigley gum and mints products sold in Australia, including brands such as Extra, Eclipse, PK and Juicy Fruit.

According to the company, the latest investment will enable the production of more sugar-free gum flavours in Australia, including Spearmint, White Spearmint, Intense Mint, Peppermint, White Peppermint, White Bubblemint and Strawberry. It also incorporates circular-by-design packing technology, hoped to eliminate 13 tonnes of soft plastics each year.

“Our gum and mints business is an important part of our portfolio and one that consistently performs well,” says Mars Wrigley Australia General Manager Michael Ryan.

“This investment signifies our continued belief in the growth potential of the category, and also our belief in local manufacturing and the economic health and prosperity of our communities.”
