Mars Wrigley launches Hornsby Community Heroes

Mars Wrigley Australia has launched a new community initiative, celebrating the unsung heroes who make a positive contribution to the strength and resilience of the Hornsby region.

The Mars Wrigley Hornsby Community Heroes awards will showcase the wonderful volunteers and members of the community who consistently go above and beyond to make Hornsby a better place to live.

There are three award categories open for nominations:

  • The Mars Community Service Hero
  • The Mars Emergency Services and Frontline Volunteer Hero
  • The Mars Community Sport Hero.

Each of the Mars Wrigley Hornsby Community Heroes award winners will receive a $5000 cash donation to their nominated charity or organisation of choice.

Nominations are open from 27 January 2026 and close on 9 March 2026, with the winners to be announced in late March 2026. Eligible nominees must be over the age of 18, reside in the Hornsby region and volunteer their time in one of the outlined categories.

The judging panel will consist of Mars Wrigley Plant Manager – Asquith, Dan Firth, Member for Hornsby, James Wallace MP, and Mayor of Hornsby Shire Council, Warren Waddell.

Mars Wrigley Plant Manager – Asquith, Dan Firth, says the awards were a wonderful way to acknowledge the unsung heroes of the region.

“Mars has long history of giving back to the communities where we operate and we’re thrilled to bring this initiative to Hornsby, home to our Asquith factory site since 1958.

“These awards are about recognising the people who roll up their sleeves and make a real difference, whether it’s through local sports clubs, community services, or emergency response efforts – it’s great to give back to the community where we have such a rich, historical connection,” said Mr Firth.

Member for Hornsby, James Wallace MP, is delighted to be supporting the awards.

“This initiative is a wonderful way to celebrate the incredible individuals whose selfless actions strengthen the fabric of our community. We can’t wait to read the inspiring nominations and recognise those who go above and beyond to make Hornsby such a great place to live.”

Mayor of Hornsby Shire Council, Warren Waddell, says he is proud to be part of the judging panel of an initiative that not only celebrates the efforts of volunteers, but also inspires community work.

“Hornsby is built on the dedication and generosity of its people, and these awards are a fantastic way to shine a light on those who give so much to our community while motivating the next wave of participants, whether that be at local sport clubs, charities or emergency service workers.”

Mars Wrigley’s Asquith site forms a key part of their Australian manufacturing operations and currently employs 190 members of the Hornsby community. Since 1958, the factory has produced Wrigley’s complete portfolio of Australian-made gum and mints brands, including Extra, Eclipse, PK and Juicy Fruit.
