James Pearson appointed head of industry body

The Australian Chamber for Commerce and Industry (ACCI) has appointed James Pearson as its new CEO.

Mr Pearson has formerly held roles with Shell Australia, Chevron Australia, the Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association, the Western Australian Department of Resources Development, and the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade, and CEO of Chamber of Commerce and Industry Western Australia.

President of the Australian Chamber Board Terry Wetherall said Mr Pearson would be a strong advocate for the ACCI.

“James comes to the chamber with a wealth of experience in both the private and public sectors,” Mr Wetherall said. “As a senior executive with Shell Australia and, previously, chief executive of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Western Australia, he has represented business at the highest level and understands the needs of members.”

The Australian Chamber is Australia’s largest and most representative business association, comprising state and territory chambers of commerce and national industry associations. Mr Pearson’s appointment follows the announcement that outgoing CEO Kate Carnell will take up the role of the federal Government’s first Small Business Ombudsman.

ARA Executive Director Russell Zimmerman said that “Mr Pearson is a sound choice to lead the ACCI cause, with an extensive business background, and I look forward to progressing the ARA and ACCI’s cooperative alliance”.
