Zambrero has reached a new major milestone following its global Plate 4 Plate Day event.
By the day of the event (13 October), 2009 volunteers had registered around Australia and Ireland to help pack meals for those in need. Together, working closely with distribution partner Rise Against Hunger, the generous participants were able to prepare a total of 470,000 “lifesaving” meals for distribution.
“Thank you to those that attended our annual meal packing event. Our Zam Fam came together and packed an impactful 470,000 meals. The dedication from the communities across Australia and Ireland, our largest growth market, really is a testament to the importance of events like these” says Zambrero Australia CEO Matthew Kenny.
“Paired with double donations to Plate 4 Plate across Zambrero restaurants throughout the day, we truly have made a difference to those in need, with 72.3 million meals donated since the Plate 4 Plate initiative’s inception.”
According to Zambrero, Plate 4 Plate has created a “global movement” to end hunger. It mobilises Australians and the globe to give back, with every burrito, bowl, retail item or kids Zam Box purchased at Zambrero restaurants around the world resulting in a meal provided to someone in need.
“We really must take a moment to appreciate all the hard work and what has been achieved to date, thanks to Aussies and the Irish’s generosity with their time – each and every volunteer has played a crucial role in helping end world hunger,” says Rise Against Hunger CEO Rick Kearney.
“Since the Plate 4 Plate initiative was created, our goal has been to bring people together to help those in need. With every meal donated, we are doing just that.”
In August, Zambrero reached another major milestone as part of Plate 4 Plate, distributing over 70 million meals to help end world hunger.
