Woolworths Ltd appoints former chief as board adviser

Former group CEO Roger Corbett has been appointed as an adviser to the Woolworths board from December 1.

Mr Corbett will advise the board on issues relating to the performance of the company and business-improvement opportunities. He will also be a mentor to senior management.

Appointed executive director of Woolworths and managing director of BIG W in 1990, Mr Corbett became managing director retail from July 1997 and group managing director and CEO from January 1999 until September 2006.

“Roger Corbett is uniquely placed and eminently qualified to provide insight and advice to both the board and senior management at this particular time in Woolworths’ transformation,” Woolworths Chairman Gordon Cairns said. “The board is delighted that Roger has made himself available and looks forward to working with him.”

This week Woolworths Ltd also announced the retirement of non-executive director Christine Cross with immediate effect. This follows the company’s announcement of board changes on September 30.
