Woolworths bosses reshuffled

Dan Murphy’s GM of Operations Angus Armstrong will step in as Acting Director of Fuel and Convenience following the appointment of Michael James, who previously held the position, as Director of Stores.

The appointment reflects the removal of a layer of management. Mr James’ role is similar, though not identical, to the director of operations role that previously reported to the now abolished role of Woolworths supermarket director. Dave Chambers, who previously held that role, is returning to NZ to resume the position of Managing Director of Progressive Enterprises (Countdown).

Progressive Enterprises owns and operates more than 183 Countdown supermarkets in NZ. Mr Chambers held the MD position from July 2011 to January 2015 and has served the company since 1979.

“While I have a longstanding history with Progressive, returning in 2016 is really a new beginning,” he said. “I’ve loved working in Sydney over the past 12 months and am looking forward to rejoining a great team that is focused on bringing the best prices and a terrific shopping experience to Countdown customers.”

Acting managing director Pat McEntee will return to Australia to take up a senior role in the Woolworths Food business.
