The average price of unleaded petrol in Australia fell 4.4¢ to 172.9¢ a litre nationally in the week ending 4 September, according to the Australian Institute of Petroleum’s ‘Weekly Petrol Prices’ report.
The average national weekly metropolitan retail price fell 7.1¢ to 172.4¢ a litre, while the regional price rose 1.1¢ to 173.9¢ a litre.
The most expensive unleaded in the country was in the Northern Territory at 196.6¢ a litre, followed by Tasmania (178.3¢), NSW/ACT (175.5¢), Queensland (172.4¢), Victoria (171.7¢), South Australia (170.3¢), and Western Australia (168.1¢) .
Of the major cities, Perth offered the cheapest unleaded for the week at 165¢ a litre, followed by Adelaide (169.7¢), Melbourne (172.6¢), Brisbane (173.4¢), Sydney (174.4¢), Hobart (177¢), Canberra (181.9¢), and Darwin (183.8¢).
