Weekly petrol prices

The average price of unleaded petrol in Australia fell 0.9¢ to 163.5¢ a litre nationally in the week ending 18 September, according to the Australian Institute of Petroleum’s ‘Weekly Petrol Prices’ report.

The average national weekly metropolitan retail price fell 0.2¢ to 161.1¢ a litre, while the regional price fell 2.5¢ to 168.2¢ a litre.

The most expensive unleaded in the country was in the Northern Territory at 191.2¢ a litre, followed by Tasmania (175.4¢), South Australia (165.2¢), Western Australia (164.5¢), Queensland (164.1¢), NSW/ACT (163.3¢), and Victoria (160.3¢).

Of the major cities, Sydney offered the cheapest unleaded for the week at 158¢ a litre, followed by Melbourne (158.9¢), Perth (161.1¢), Brisbane (163.2¢), Adelaide (164¢), Hobart (172.8¢), Darwin (177.2¢), and Canberra (178.7¢).
