WA’s Chicken Treat flies into Sydney

Western Australian restaurant brand Chicken Treat has opened its first stores on the east coast.

Chicken Treat has been a Western Australian favourite since 1976 with more than 55 stores throughout the state. Now, after years of planning and delays due to Covid, Chicken Treat’s expansion plans are being realised.

The first east coast restaurant has opened at Eastern Creek in western Sydney this week. A store in Crows Nest on Sydney’s north shore will open its doors in the coming weeks.

Chicken Treat CEO Mimma Battista.

“We’re thrilled to be expanding to the east coast with two stores opening in Sydney this month, and sites secured in the ACT, to open early next year,” says Chicken Treat CEO Mimma Battista.

“The feedback we’ve received from our Eastern Creek customers since opening on Monday has been outstanding and we’re so happy they’re getting to experience what Western Australian locals have loved for decades.”

The Sydney restaurants are part of an ambitious plan to open 33 stores around the country in just 18 months. By June 2023, Chicken Treat will add another nine stores in locations across Australia. Each store will be locally owned and operated by a member of the community.

Unique offering

Chicken Treat is owned by the same parent company as Red Rooster and Oporto, but its offering is said to be unique.

“At Chicken Treat, you won’t see regular menu items like you might at other chicken restaurants – we are all about food innovation, with delicious and fun menu items like our Baconary burger, Jalapeno cheesy bites, and mac and cheese balls,” says Ms Battista.

“At Chicken Treat, we’ve made it our mission to be unique. We offer the best rotisserie and fried chicken, as well as unapologetically indulgent burgers.

“Ask any West Australian, Chicken Treat is known for its chips, and we’re told we have the best chips in the country.”

Growth amid tough times

Ms Battista says the brand had undergone an overhaul in preparation for its national launch.

“We’ve seen hospitality businesses hit hard by Covid, and prior to that, Western Australia experienced tough economic times, but Chicken Treat is thriving, with continued strong growth over the past five years,” she says.

“Part of that is due to the fact we’ve contemporised Chicken Treat and when you come into store, you’ll see we have fun with the brand and with the food but we’re serious about quality and taste.

“We can’t wait to introduce Chicken Treat to the people of Sydney and beyond.”
