Top 5 trickiest items to pack

Lunar New Year is one of the busiest times for e-commerce across Asia, which means FedEx becomes increasingly busy with festival orders.

With such a variety of orders being shipped, its natural for some to be curious about HOW certain things are packaged e.g., seafood, delicates, or items sensitive to the environment.

Below, FedEx lists how they package their trickiest items:

  1. Packaged artwork

Framed art is purchased and transported all of the time, says the team at FedEx.

It’s essential that these items are unharmed and arrive in perfect condition.

FedEx’ tip? Apply masking tape in a criss-cross or large ‘X’ from one corner to the other across the frame to avoid splintering or cracks.

FedEx offers special packaging such as Premium Art Boxes for high-value art shipments.

  1. Shipping flowers

If specimens move too much during transit, the stems and leaves can get damaged, ruining their appearance or longevity. One of the most fragile flowers also happens to be a seasonal favourite, the orchid.

Contact between the plants’ blooms and leaves can lead to damage. They should be wrapped in paper to provide extra cushioning when shipping.

It’s also helpful to have packaging designed to protect from temperature drops.

  1. Musical instruments

Instruments are sensitive to impact and environments, and hold extreme monetary and sentimental value.

It’s important to choose a climate-appropriate shipping method, as well as loosen the strings before you pack it. This will relieve tension and lessen any chance of damage.

  1. Seafood

Maintaining product integrity is critical for edible goods, and special care must be taken for seafood.

Use coolants when shipping live seafood such as lobster or oysters. These won’t leak and the risk of product accidentally freezing can be avoided.

  1. Alcoholic beverages

Decades of work can quickly be undone if a wine is badly-stored or shipped. Strict temperature controls can ensure wine arrives in the best possible condition.

Additionally, remember that wine is heavy, and to only use boxes that are intended to hold a wines weight.
