The Reserve Bank has published the design of a new $10 banknote that will be circulated from September.
“The $10 banknote celebrates two famous Australian writers, Dame Mary Gilmore and AB ‘Banjo’ Paterson,” the bank’s Governor, Philip Lowe, said.. “Their work is recognised in several design elements on the banknote, including images of a pen nib in two of the clear windows and excerpts of their poetry in microprint.”
New security features have been incorporated into the new note to protect against counterfeiting and are similar to those in the $5 note issued last year, such as the top-to-bottom clear window.
Each banknote in the new series will feature a different species of native Australian wattle and bird. The series also has a ‘tactile’ feature to help the vision-impaired community distinguish between different denominations.
