A man in the US state of Florida walked into a convenience story with an alligator under his arm and asked for beer, according to media reports.
The alligator’s mouth was taped shut.
The video appeared on Facebook. It shows the man holding the animal while he asks, “Y’all got beer still? Y’all ain’t out, are y’all?”
It also shows him chasing another person around the store. Other customers are looking on and laughing.
In the video, the man claims the alligator he is holding is alive.
Public Information Officer Karen Parker from The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) says someone tipped them off about the incident via the FWC’s wildlife alert number.
The FWC says it still has to talk to witnesses and the people involved.
So far, nobody has pressed charges against the man because the incident is still being investigated.
According to Florida statute, “It is unlawful to intentionally kill, injure, possess, or capture, or attempt to kill, injure, possess, or capture, an alligator or other crocodilian.”
In an interview after the event, the man, named Robby Stratton, claimed he had no recollection of what he’d done.
“This store sells some good liquor,” he said. “And I drank a lot of it that night.”
