GapMaps, a cloud-based data intelligence platform used by brands to pinpoint optimal locations for its physical stores, has released its monthly ‘Fast Food & Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) Retail Network Report’, tracking store openings and closures in Australia for the three months ending 1 November.
Monitoring 29 brands in 6,824 locations across Australia, the report shows 58 new stores opened and 32 closed: a net change of 26 additional stores.
Amongst the brands tracked, Subway (+10), Dominos (+eight) and Zambrero (+six) led store openings in the quarter, whilst Rosie’s Chicken (-nine), and Nando’s (-five) recorded the most store closures. At a state level, Victoria saw the most store openings with 18, and Victoria also recorded the most closures with 12.
“Despite 32 store closures during the reporting period, we continue to see strong store growth overall, with 58 new premises added,” says GapMaps Senior Analyst Scott Johnson.
“This report provides our customers with valuable insights into the changing competitive landscape in the fast food and quick service restaurant sector.
“Location decisions continue to be impacted as brands adjust to new patterns of people movements, brought about by continued hybrid work arrangements and population shifts away from CBD and urban areas. As such, we are finding more brands using our GapMaps Live platform to access the very latest data to help them make more informed decisions on where to open, or even close, their restaurants,” Mr Johnson said.
