The EPA NSW has released draft guidance on the requirement for Transport Emergency Response Plans (TERPs) and is seeking feedback from industry participants on this resource.
“Fuel transport operators know that there is a requirement for a TERP to be in place if they are carting a placarded load of dangerous goods”, explains ACAPMA’s Elisha Radwanowski.
“There is however a wide variety of TERPs and more guidance on what should be included, and ‘what good looks like’ is always welcome, so we commend the EPA for the development of these resources and encourage members to review them and make comment before they are finalised”, continues Elisha.
The EPA NSW draft Guide provides clear instructions for industry and includes an accessible template and checklist for safety inspections.
The guidance document includes:
• Definition and guidance around transporting dangerous goods
• Practical easy-to-use templates
• Checklist.

“The aim of any TERP is to help all the relevant authorities and responders work seamlessly together to ensure the best outcome in the event of an emergency. Consistent and complete TERPs are a key to achieving this aim, so all businesses, even those who have recently reviewed their own TERPs are encouraged to review the draft Guide and provide comment, either directly to the EPA NSW or to ACAPMA for consolidation”, concludes Elisha.
Consultation closes on 5pm on 28 February 2023.
