First opened in 1993, the French artisan bakery and cafe has expanded its flagship site in Melbourne’s Como Centre.
Laurent Bakery has come a long way since opening its first boulangerie on Toorak Road, South Yarra. Almost three decades (and 17 more stores) later, the original store in the suburb’s Como Centre has received a breathtaking makeover.
“Being the flagship store, it was important that this site showcased the roots of both myself and the luxuriousness of the brand,” says founder and CEO Laurent Boillon, adding that this is why the fit-out incorporates the first and only open kitchen to be featured at a Laurent venue.
“Customers can observe the entire baking process and fine art that is pastry making, perfected by the Laurent team. Pastry demonstrations and events will be regular occurrences, exclusive to the flagship South Yarra store, making the best use of the open kitchen. Passion and quality are evident in our baking methods and always consistent across all venues.”
The store has also increased capacity, extending from 133sqm to 231sqm to seat a comfortable 110 people across a split-level seating area, making it the biggest Laurent in Victoria.
“A big space was essential to create an incredible seating zone for our customers,” says Mr Boillon.
Interior design firm Golden was enlisted to help reinvent the classic and modern style synonymous with the brand.
“The atmosphere has completely lifted,” says Mr Boillon. “And feedback from customers, both regulars and passing guests, has been overwhelmingly positive.”
