SPAR has been rated Australia’s best convenience store by consumers in a review by Canstar Blue.
The retailer scored five-star reviews in all categories, namely customer service, product variety, store layout, value for money and overall satisfaction.
The score places SPAR ahead of Night Owl, 7-Eleven, IGA X-press, EzyMart and The Foodary in all measures.
Night Owl and 7-Eleven were rated four stars overall, while IGA X-press, EzyMart, and The Foodary (Ampol) got three stars for overall satisfaction.
Convenience shoppers
Canstar Blue’s first-ever review of convenience stores was finalised in September, based on the feedback of nearly 1300 consumers who’ve visited and made a purchase from a convenience store chain in the past 12 months.
In addition to the ratings of convenience stores, consumers were surveyed on their shopping habits.
Canstar Blue found that location and the convenience of being close to home or work is the number one reason people visit the same store because a trip to the supermarket is sometimes too much effort.
The research also revealed 36% of Aussies enjoy hot foods like pie and sausage rolls available at convenience stores.
Other key findings include:
- 40% Australians said their last purchase at a convenience store was snacks
- 25% said they often impulse-buy items at the checkout counter
- 36% enjoy the hot food and 33% enjoy the coffee available at convenience stores.
