7-Eleven supports flood-affected communities

7-Eleven Australia is extending its support to local communities hit by the floods in Queensland and NSW. The retailer has donated $1 million to the Salvation Army’s Flood Disaster Appeal and $50,000 to the ‘Australia Unites’ telethon.

This contribution is in addition to the more than 20 tonnes of fresh food that has been delivered to relief centres.

Daily fresh food donations, adds 7-Eleven, will continue for the foreseeable future.

7-Eleven CEO and Managing Director Angus McKay says the disaster has had a huge impact on the retailer’s customers, but the company’s people, franchisees and supplier partners are working together to support communities and emergency service crews.

“They have redirected food in advance of flooding and delivery route impacts to prevent food from being wasted and going to landfill,” he says.

“A number of our stores have been damaged, and in the case of Fairfield [Queensland], it has been completely inundated. We’ll work with our franchisees and teams to clean up and rebuild and we will continue to support those communities in which we operate.

“Members of our team have [also] personally been impacted by the events… We will continue to provide them with support and assistance.”

Mr McKay adds: “The response from the emergency services crews, community organisations and the residents has been amazing, and I want them to know 7-Eleven, in partnership with the Salvos, is there for the long haul.

“In addition to providing initial care and support, the Salvos will be there in the months and years ahead as people rebuild and recover physically, materially and mentally.”
