Weekly petrol prices

The average price of unleaded petrol in Australia fell 1.8¢ to 172.6¢ a litre nationally in the week ending 29 September, according to the Australian Institute of Petroleum’s ‘Weekly Petrol Prices’ report.

The average national weekly metropolitan retail price fell 1.5¢ to 172.3¢ a litre, while the regional price fell 2.4¢ to 173.1¢ a litre.

The most expensive unleaded in the country was in the Northern Territory at 189¢ a litre, followed by Victoria (176.7¢), Queensland (174.5¢), Tasmania (173.6¢), Western Australia (172.2¢), NSW/ACT (170.6¢), and South Australia (161.6¢).

Of the major cities, Adelaide offered the cheapest unleaded for the week at 157.8¢ a litre, followed by Sydney (169.2¢), Darwin (170.9¢), Perth (171.2¢), Hobart (172.2¢), Brisbane (175.3¢), Melbourne (177.7¢), and Canberra (179.5¢).
