Weekly petrol prices

The average price of unleaded petrol in Australia fell by 3.1¢ to 123.7¢ a litre nationally in the week ending September 17, according to the Australian Institute of Petroleum’s Weekly Petrol Prices report.

The average national weekly metropolitan retail price fell 4.4¢ to 122.1¢ a litre, with the regional price falling 0.6¢ to 126.9¢ a litre.

The most expensive fuel in the country was in Tasmania at 135.7¢ a litre, followed by the Northern Territory (131.3¢), Western Australia (128.2¢), NSW/ACT (126.4¢), South Australia (124.6¢), Queensland (121.2¢) and Victoria (118.7¢).

Of the major cities, Melbourne offered the cheapest fuel for the week at 116.9¢ a litre, followed by Brisbane (117.2¢), Adelaide (124.7¢), Sydney (126.5¢), Perth (127.3¢), Canberra (128.1), Darwin (128.2¢) and Hobart (135.7¢).
