The average price of unleaded petrol in Australia rose 3.6¢ to 172.4¢ a litre nationally in the week ending 21 August, according to the Australian Institute of Petroleum’s ‘Weekly Petrol Prices’ report.
The average national weekly metropolitan retail price rose 8¢ to 173¢ a litre, while the regional price fell 5.4¢ to 171.3¢ a litre.
The most expensive unleaded in the country was in the Northern Territory at 199.8¢ a litre, followed by Tasmania (180¢), Queensland (177.7¢), NSW/ACT (171.9¢), Victoria (171.9¢), South Australia (169.6¢), and Western Australia (164.3¢).
Of the major cities, Perth offered the cheapest unleaded for the week at 159.8¢ a litre, followed by Adelaide (168.4¢), Sydney (171.7¢), Melbourne (172.9¢), Hobart (181.3¢), Brisbane (182.6¢), Canberra (185.4¢), and Darwin (188.2¢).
