The average price of diesel fuel in Australia rose 0.8¢ to 163.2¢ a litre nationally in the week ending 16 January, according to the Australian Institute of Petroleum’s ‘Weekly Diesel Prices’ report.
The average national weekly metropolitan retail price rose 0.9¢ to 162.8¢ a litre, while the regional rose 0.7¢ to 163.6¢ a litre.
The most expensive diesel in the country was in the Northern Territory at 176.7¢ a litre, followed by Tasmania (171.3¢), Queensland (163.2¢), NSW/ACT (163¢), Victoria (162.7¢), Western Australia (162.2¢), and South Australia (161.2¢).
Of the major cities, Adelaide offered the cheapest diesel for the week at 157.6¢ a litre, followed by Sydney (160.8¢), Perth (160.9¢), Melbourne (162.5¢), Brisbane (164.3¢), Darwin (165.8¢), Canberra (167¢), and Hobart (174.3¢).
