GapMaps has released its monthly Fast Food & Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) Retail Network Report, tracking store openings and closures in Australia for the three months ending 1 September.
Monitoring 29 brands in 6796 locations across Australia, the report shows 64 new stores opened and 33 closed: a net change of 31 additional stores.
Among the brands tracked, Domino’s Pizza (+11), Guzman Y Gomez (+5), Rosie’s Chicken (+4), Hero Sushi (+4) and Roll’d (+4) led store openings in the quarter. On the other hand, Subway (-6), Pizza Hut (-5) and Chicken Treat (-4) recorded the most store closures.
At a state level, Victoria and NSW saw the most store openings with 21, but Victoria also recorded the most closures with nine.
“Despite 33 store closures during the reporting period, we continue to see strong store growth overall, with 64 new premises added,” says GapMaps Senior Analyst Scott Johnson.
“This report provides our customers with valuable insights into the changing competitive landscape in the fast food and QSR sector.
“Location decisions continue to be impacted as brands adjust to new patterns of people movements, brought about by continued hybrid work arrangements and population shifts away from CBD and urban areas.”
