Smart Sweets a low sugar treat

Confectionery company Double ‘D’ Sweets has added a low sugar gummy product to its range made with fibre and sweetened with stevia.

Smart Sweets was launched earlier this year, following four years of product development and research. Said to already be a hit with consumers, the new range contains 15g of fibre, “just” 2g of sugar, and less than 60 calories per bag (35g bag).

Double ‘D’ Sweets has been part of the Australian confectionery landscape for over 100 years. The fourth generation of the Hughes family is now leading the company into the 21st century.

Managing Director Justin Hughes says that with improvements in ingredients, it became apparent some time ago that there was a way to make a low sugar treat made with low calorie fibre and stevia.

“Smart Sweets have already been incredibly popular amongst a really wide variety of consumers including people wanting to cut down sugar but keep candy, parents with young children and people on a fitness journey,” he says.

Smart Sweets are available in 50g (RRP $2.70) and 35g (RRP $2) formats in the flavours of Fruits & Cream, Berry, and Sour. They are ranged by major retailers in Australia and New Zealand including Coles, Woolworths and IGA.
