Motorsport and shopper dockets are chalk and cheese aspects of the fuel industry.

by David Burton.

There is a motorsport theme running through the Fuel News pages in this issue. Lewis Hamilton recently took the checkered flag in the Melbourne Grand Prix and, at the same venue, Team Penske V8 Supercar driver Marcos Ambrose crashed his car and has stood down for the next race.

Motorsports and fuel and lubricants go hand in hand – Shell V-Power and Ferrari come to mind. Increasingly, the research spent on reaching maximum performance in motorsport trickles down to the bowser and forecourt. While the V8 is synonymous with ‘grunt machines’ in Australia, the latest engines in Formula 1 have more in common with many average motorists than the throaty roar of a finely tuned ‘eight potter’.

On a different tangent, there is an update on consumer attitudes to shopper docket fuel discounts from the latest Colmar Brunton Shopper Pulse.
