Unusual ice cream flavours have taken the nation by storm over recent years, with everything from matcha tea, banoffee pie and even lobster ice cream hitting the market. However new research from LCMs shows that 60 per cent of consumers prefer the classics; strawberry, vanilla and chocolate.
The research has revealed that Aussies think the trend of wild and wacky ice cream flavours – from chicken and waffles to cheese oatcake – has gone too far (54%). The poll also uncovered the top five most popular Aussie ice cream flavours of all time: chocolate (26%), vanilla (22%), mint chocolate chip (16%), strawberry (12%) and hazelnut (9%).
When asked about their favourite nostalgic snacks from the past, Aussies voted Neapolitan ice cream as the number one standout choice – saying Neapolitan gives them feelings of nostalgia (57%), happiness (34%) and comfort (29%).
To celebrate Aussies’ love for the delicious tri-colour flavour, the all-new bar from LCMs has been inspired by the traditional flavours of the retro ice cream and is made with a strawberry vanilla base, topped with chocolate sprinkles.
The new flavour is the latest to join the 25% Less Sugar range, alongside other classics, Caramel and Choc Strawberry.
Kellogg Australia Portfolio Manager Melissa Tan says, “Aussies love nostalgia and in celebration of the latest Neapolitan ice cream flavour joining the LCMs 25% Less Sugar range, we wanted to find out the nation’s thoughts towards the quirky ice cream flavours that are on the market today.
“Unsurprisingly, the research found that Aussies still love a classic. So we hope Aussies enjoy adding this light, crispy snack to their family’s lunchboxes,” Ms Tan said.
The new 25% Less Sugar Neapolitan LCMs (RRP $5) are available from Woolworths. The 25% Less Sugar Caramel and Choc Strawberry flavours are available nationally.
