Huskee, a reusable drinkware and circular solutions company, has officially launched Borrow by Huskee in Sydney.
Borrow by Huskee is promoted as a free, turnkey reusable cup system allowing customers to borrow one of Huskee’s new Borrow cups when ordering coffee or beverages from participating cafes and venues. The system is powered by GS1 Next Gen barcodes and eliminates the need for customers to bring their own cup, making sustainable choices more convenient than ever.
Now live across venues at Barangaroo and participating cafes in Sydney, the program allows customers to borrow a cup, enjoy their drink, and return it within 14 days to any participating cafe or to one of the tech-enabled collection Smart Bins installed throughout the precinct.
“This launch is a huge moment for reuse in Australia,” says Huskee co-founder Saxon Wright.
“Borrow by Huskee removes friction for consumers and businesses alike. It’s simple, accessible, and backed by powerful tech that closes the loop in a truly smart way. We’re proud to be leading this movement right here in Sydney.”
At the core of the re-use system is a “seamless”, digital experience via the Borrow App.
Each cup features a unique QR code, implemented using global GS1 standards, enabling real-time tracking, usage monitoring and returns via Smart Bins.
The Borrow cup, designed and manufactured by Huskee, comes in two popular sizes (8oz and 12oz) and is made from “durable”, 100% polypropylene, chosen for its “safety, longevity, and full recyclability” within the HuskeeLoop program. Once the cups reach end-of-life, they’re transformed into new products through Huskee’s closed-loop model.
Behind the scenes, Huskee’s state-of-the-art WashHub in St Peters ensures each returned cup is professionally washed, sanitised, dried, and repackaged, ready to re-enter circulation in Sydney’s cafe scene.
