Developing a cult following through cafés and retail at health-conscious fast food stores such as Sydney’s Iku chain, Tonicka Kombucha is a lightly fizzed drink brewed by fermenting organic green tea and raw cane sugar with a symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast.
Kombucha fans claim the traditional beverage offers many benefits, including mood stability, increased energy and restoration of gut flora after a course of antibiotics.
Disturbing the notion kombucha beverages put function ahead of flavour, Tonicka offers the traditional and original variety alongside Lemon, Lime & Ginger, Berry & Spice and Elderflower flavours. A premium product, Tonicka is shelf stable and has a shelf life of more than nine months.
Tonicka Kombucha founder Anthony Stevenson says Tonicka offers a delicious and accessible flavour for newcomers to the drink, with many other brews in the category overly sweet or bitter.
“There is an actual, tangible link between emotions and state of mind and this drink,“ he said. “A lot of people, even friends, wrote kombucha off as a hipster accessory. I put a bottle in their hand, they drink, and hours later they are asking where they can buy it.
“We want to spread joy and make maintaining a healthy gut, happy mind and beautiful body easier for everyone.”
