Farmers Union launches gut health yoghurt

Farmers Union has unveiled Gut Good, promoted as a comprehensive gut health yoghurt.

According to the brand, the new product will “transform your gut in 24 hours thanks to the superpower prebiotic in the form of galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS)”.

Formulated with billions of probiotics and prebiotics, Gut Good promotes a healthy gut microbiome in one “convenient and compact” 160g tub. It’s also claimed to be the only yoghurt in the market that contains the prebiotic GOS.

Gut Good contains three probiotic strains, BB-12, LGG and L. casei, with BB-12 being a “well-studied” strain that has been proven to help digestive health by improving regularity, says Farmers Union. Gut Good is also high in protein and made with no added sugar, adds the brand, delivering “impressive” health credentials and the “highest” health star rating for gut health yoghurt on the market.

Prebiotics, like GOS, are essentially fuel for your gut microbes, says Farmers Union, allowing the “friendly” bacteria to “thrive in abundance”. Known for being one of the gentler forms of prebiotic, GOS is less likely to cause uncomfortable symptoms like gas and bloating that you can often experience with other types of prebiotics like inulin (FOS), according to the brand.

“Diet plays an important role in gut health and the type of bugs living in your gut,” says Jennifer Arguelles, Accredited Practising Dietitian, and Bega’s in-house nutritionist.

“By consuming probiotics and prebiotics, such as those in our new Gut Good yoghurt; as well as dietary fibre, fluids and a diverse range of plant-based foods, you can make an impact on your gut microbiome.

“Science tells us that the microbiome is connected to overall wellbeing, including mental health and metabolic health.”

Gut Good is available at Woolworths in the flavours of vanilla, strawberry, mango and caramelised banana.
