Western Australians can now access Containers for Change Collect, an on-demand service that is expected to increase accessibility to the “widely popular” container deposit scheme.
According to the Western Australian government, Containers for Change has proven “hugely successful” since it was launched in October 2020, with over three billion containers diverted from landfill since then.
As part of the newly launched Collect service, Western Australians can book a collection through the Containers for Change WA app or the Containers for Change website and then select a service provider in their local area.
“Access and convenience to Containers for Change has never been easier with the launch of Containers for Change Collect,” says Western Australian Environment Minister Reece Whitby.
“I encourage all Western Australians to utilise the many ways to return their 10¢ containers that are available – whether it’s via the collection service, by visiting a refund point, or by donating to a local school or charity.”
Collect will make Containers for Change particularly accessible to restaurants, cafes, bars, businesses, and workplaces, according to a statement, where it’s estimated up to 400 million containers go unreturned every year in Western Australia.
