Chocolatier Bennetto releases new chocolate bar flavour

Chocolate company Bennetto – renowned for its organic Fairtrade vegan bars and artistic packaging – has released a new flavour.

Pistachios in the Dark features toasted pistachios infused with dark Samoan cocoa. “This chocolate is very creamy despite the high cocoa content and offsets well against the pistachios and a little sea salt,” says founder Lucy Bennetto. “You’d actually almost think it was milk chocolate.”

Bennetto, which recently was added to Woolworths shelves nationally, will be exhibiting at this year’s upcoming Naturally Good event at Sydney’s ICC from 5-6 June. Exhibiting will be a range of healthy confectionary brands including other producers in the chocolate space such as Yours Truly and Sweet William.

Additionally, the brand has also just released its range of new drinking chocolates online. This includes Dark Cocoa Hot Chocolate Powder – 250g – characterised by a high cocoa intensity and a lower sugar content, and Superfood Hot Chocolate Powder – 250g – containing maca and lucuma, known to have a high concentration of antioxidants which can naturally support energy levels.

Produced in New Zealand, the brand continues to grow in popularity in the Australian market and is widely stocked in supermarkets and independent grocery stores.

Ms Bennetto puts down the company’s success in part to only sourcing from Fairtrade organic cooperatives. “We work with Peru, Madagascar and Ecuador,” she said. “Our manufacturer works very closely with cooperatives there.

We also produce with our Swiss manufacturing partner, Halba, which is Switzerland’s leading sustainable chocolate manufacturer. They often rate as the top large chocolate manufacturer in the world for sustainability.”

Another reason for the brand’s success is its eye-catching packaging featuring New Zealand native birds designed by New Zealand artist Henrietta Harris. “The birds reflect the origin of the cocoa. We have taken actual birds found in the countries of origin and applied a little artistic licence. Peruvian birds grace the chocolate bars with cocoa from Peru, Ecuadorian bars grace birds from Ecuador and Madagascar from Madagascar and we get lots of positive feedback about the designs,” Ms Bennetto said.
