Australian gourmet food producer Brookfarm has launched a Prebiotic Wholefood Bar. Suitable for paleo, gluten free and vegan diets, the energy boosting snack is made from prebiotic nuts and seeds “to help to feed a healthy gut and sustain energy, with the added benefit of zinc.”
Brookfarm’s co-founder and head of innovation Pam Brook developed the range in the family kitchen on their macadamia farm in Byron Bay as an extension of their hugely successful Brookfarm Prebiotic Paleo Granola range.
“I wanted to take our popular prebiotic paleo granola blend to create a functional health snack that felt like an indulgent, comforting and moreish treat in the convenience of an on-the-go format,” she says.
The bars are produced in Brookfarm’s Byron Bay bakehouse using only sustainably sourced natural real food ingredients. Each blend containing a mix of 30% almonds, 27% coconut and 20% premium seeds (sunflower seeds, flaxseeds and pumpkin seeds).
The naturally occurring prebiotic nuts and seeds were selected due to their functional ability to deliver a good source of fibre and for their role in promoting gut diversity.
The plant-based proteins act to deliver an instant energy boost and sustain energy for longer, with each bar containing only good fats and 5g of sugar or less per serve.
To add additional functional benefits, Ms Brook added zinc gluconate to the blend, often used to support the immune system and metabolic function. All bars are preservative and additive free, and non-GMO.
