Amazon expands parcel pick up network

Amazon has expanded its Amazon Hub network in Australia.

The company has launched its parcel pick up network in Perth and have added hundreds of new locations across Victoria, NSW and Queensland.

As many Australians return to the office some or all of the time, says Amazon, the expansion of Amazon Hub offers customers more choice and convenience when it comes to delivery of their packages.

Independent research commissioned by Amazon Australia reveals that one in five Aussie respondents (19%) don’t have a secure location to leave their parcels at their home. They, therefore, prefer to have their package delivered to a parcel pick up location.

The research also reveals that one in five respondents (21%) prefer to have their orders delivered to a parcel pick up point rather than their home in order to keep it a surprise from someone in their household.

“Last year most of us spent more time at home than ever before, with nearly half of Australians (49%) also increasing their online shopping habits,” says Amazon Australia Director of Operations Craig Fuller.

“Many of us are now returning to the office on a full or part time basis and have less consistency about when we will be home.

“We expect our expanded Amazon Hub network of more than 750 locations will be welcomed for the choice and convenience it offers, and we are pleased to be able to extend this network to our West Australian customers.”

How it works

Shipping to an Amazon Hub location is promoted as being “easy and secure”.

After shopping on Amazon.com.au, customers proceed to checkout and select the locker or counter pickup point that’s most convenient for them as their delivery location.

As soon as their parcel arrives, customers receive an e-mail notification with a unique barcode and six-digit code that they’ll use to retrieve their parcel.

At the locker, customers will scan the barcode to retrieve their parcel. For counter locations, customers will provide the barcode or the six-digit code to store staff, who will scan it, retrieve the parcel, and hand it to the customer.

Customers have three days to collect their parcel from a locker and seven days to collect their parcel from a counter location.
