Australian specialty coffee retailer Zarraffa’s Coffee has announced its landmark entry into the South Australian market, bolstering the brand’s sustained growth plans to expand to over 200 sites nationally.
The expansion marks a significant milestone for the proudly Australian-owned and operated specialty coffee company that currently operates almost 80 stores across Queensland, NSW, and Western Australia.
Reinforcing its commitment to delivering exceptional coffee experiences and convenience to even more Australians, plans are afoot to launch the brand into new states across the next 12 months and grow in areas within existing territories as part of its national expansion.
“Our journey into South Australia has been a long time coming. We have had our sights set on Adelaide from the very beginning, and now that we have reached the right stage in our growth plans, we’re excited to finally make this moment happen,” said Zarraffa’s Coffee founder and Managing Director Kenton Campbell.
“We will be opening the doors to our first flagship Zarraffa’s Coffee store in the northern suburb of Adelaide at Munno Para later this year and look forward to introducing Zarraffa’s to a whole new region of coffee-lovers.”
The announcement comes following the company’s strategic multi-million-dollar acquisition of First Things First Coffee – Adelaide’s first drive thru specialty coffee group – and will see Zarraffa’s take ownership of its four sites located in Enfield, Salisbury Downs, Woodville Park and Holden Hill this April.
“This move has been thoughtfully considered and a way to align and accelerate our expansion into the state, integrating with a team that already shares our passion for good quality coffee and community,” said Mr Campbell.
“We’re entering humbly, we are not here to change what makes these stores special. We respect what the team behind First Things First Coffee have created, and we are here to build upon it to ensure continuity and a seamless experience for customers.
“Just like South Australia has some of the finest wines, we believe that Zarraffa’s brings with it an ethos that blends seamlessly with the local community, and we look forward to becoming an integral part of Adelaide’s coffee culture as we serve up that individually perfect cup of coffee, every time,” he said.
Founders of First Things First Coffee James and Hana Carrigg and Aaron Box shared their sentiments on the handover in a joint statement.
“First Things First Coffee was born from the ambition to combine absolute convenience with excellent coffee. Since 2015, we have strived to exceed our customers’ expectations, and we’ve enjoyed every moment of it.
“The decision to hand over the reins wasn’t made lightly, however it was the right moment and the right opportunity. We’ve built something really special in our local communities, and we wanted to ensure that our stores could flourish, and our customers and team would continue to thrive under new leadership. We found a perfect synergy with Zarraffa’s – a business that not only shares our passion for coffee but also values its people and communities. We’re confident that they will take what we created and see that it turns into a lasting staple in Adelaide.”
Following almost 30 years in business and 25 years in franchising, Zarraffa’s Coffee has built a steadfast reputation in the industry, with the expansion a natural progression for the company which remains committed to its core mission.
“We are a family business run by families – that’s what sets us apart. We are a community of people who have been part of the brand for 10, 15, some even over 20 years, and genuinely love serving good quality coffee with a smile,” said Mr Campbell.
“Our aim is for the heart of the coffee experience to remain the same and we hope to part our commitment to product, service, freshness and convenience with the people of Adelaide as we share a taste of our brand and gear up towards opening our first store in the coming months.”
Zarraffa’s (pronounced Za-raff-as) comes from the Arabic word ‘Zarafa’ which means ‘Giraffe’. The well-known and much-loved Australian brand was established in Queensland in 1996 after being founded by Kenton and Rachel Campbell.
Originating from the backstreets of Southport on the Gold Coast, Zarraffa’s Coffee has brewed into an award-winning enterprise with $200 million in group turnover, boasting a presence across Queensland, Western Australia, NSW, and now South Australia.
With a commitment to quality, Zarraffa’s unique blend of coffee is freshly roasted on site at its state-of-the-art roastery based at the brand’s headquarters located in Eagleby, Queensland.
Leading the way in retail coffee innovation, the Aussie-owned specialty coffee company is poised for growth as it bolsters its network of drive thru locations and sets its sights on expanding to over 200 sites nationally over the next seven years in the lead up to the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.
