Thousands of visitors flock to the Caltex Traveston service centre each year to get up close and personal with a precious piece of Australian sporting memorabilia.
Matilda the kangaroo was the star of the 1982 Brisbane Commonwealth Games, made famous for her ability to turn her head, wink and release jumping joeys from her pouch.
General Manager Chevron Australia Downstream (Caltex) Lorne Chambers says Caltex is proud to be the custodian of an Australian icon.
“Caltex is delighted to make Matilda accessible to the general public, and at thirteen metres tall and weighing six ton she makes for a pretty unique landmark on the Bruce Highway,” Mr Chambers said.
“Visitors travelling north of the Sunshine Coast love the chance to enjoy our first-class facilities at Traveston and snap a holiday pic with Matilda.”
Caltex Traveston showcases the best the Caltex brand has to offer – barista coffee, great food, Caltex Rewards treating customers like royalty for their loyalty, and Caltex with Techron made available in every grade of fuel. It features 24 fuelling hoses, full truck-stop amenities with ensuites and laundry facilities, more than 100 parking bays, five outdoor rest areas with BBQ facilities, external and internal kids play zones, parent rooms, shower facilities and more. The site is solar-powered and has its own wastewater treatment plant, helping to reduce its impact on the environment.
Matilda will celebrate her 50th birthday in 2032, the same year that Brisbane is scheduled to host the Olympic Games.
Caltex is a brand owned by Chevron, one of the world’s leading integrated energy companies with more than 70 years of history in Australia.
