Weekly petrol prices

The average price of unleaded petrol in Australia rose 3.8¢ to 176.4¢ a litre nationally in the week ending 6 October, according to the Australian Institute of Petroleum’s ‘Weekly Petrol Prices’ report.

The average national weekly metropolitan retail price rose 5.5¢ to 177.8¢ a litre, while the regional price rose 0.4¢ to 173.5¢ a litre.

The most expensive unleaded in the country was in the Northern Territory at 187.9¢ a litre, followed by Queensland (184.7¢), NSW/ACT (179.1¢), South Australia (173.2¢), Tasmania (173¢), Western Australia (171.1¢), and Victoria (169.5¢).

Of the major cities, Melbourne offered the cheapest unleaded for the week at 168.3¢ a litre, followed by Darwin (169.9¢), Perth (170.1¢), Hobart (171.7¢), Adelaide (173.3¢), Canberra (176.9¢), Sydney (184.3¢), and Brisbane (190.7¢).
