Sydney entrepreneur Sophie Todd says she has “unlocked secret ingredients enjoyed by Indonesian royalty over 1200 years ago and bottled it in health tonics which is taking the retail market by storm”.
Having found that traditional medicines failed to treat her chronic period pain and back inflammation, Ms Todd went on a search for a natural solution to her ailments.
She moved her family to Indonesia and discovered a traditional remedy called Jamu, which she describes as an “elusive mix of secret herbs and botanicals” used by the local Balinese to treat a wide range of health problems.
Ms Todd returned to Australia with her husband Paul and two children and started a hot-brewing facility in her kitchen on Sydney’s northern beaches. She delivered her tonics to the local area.
Production then expanded into a dedicated facility, where Ms Todd has turned the “magical remedies” into a range of beverages under the banner of Mrs Toddy’s Tonic.
The brand offers four “specially formulated” tonics that are being sold in over 200 Woolworths, Coles Metro, Harris Farm and IGA stores, as well as specialist cafes and health food outlets.
The Mrs Toddy’s product portfolio includes Recovery, an anti-inflammatory, Immunity, a “flu-fighting favourite”, Glow, to “soothe and restore” the stomach and skin, and Chill Out, to assist with reducing anxiety and increasing relaxation.
Ms Todd says she has been surprised by the level and speed of attention Mrs Toddy’s has received.
“Almost overnight, we have gone from our kitchen table in Avalon to manufacturing and bottling in dedicated facilities to selling in stores nationally,” she says.
“Consumers are clearly looking for products that offer something that is unique, appealing, fresh and healthy. The range of Mrs Toddy’s tonics are completely different to juices and other drinks on the market and represent a niche in the fast-growing better-for-you beverage category.
“[The] tonics are brewed with a mix of super herbs, spices and adaptogens designed to restore, refresh and invigorate the mind, body and soul. The tonics contain no sugar or preservatives with 100% natural ingredients that are vegan friendly.”
The range is available in 250ml bottles with a RRP of $5.
