STORE PROFILE SPAR LAUNCHES EXPRESS STORE IN ORANGE SPAR Express Orange celebrated its official opening on August 1. Armed with plenty of hand sanitiser, the store kicked off festivities with giveaways, balloons for the kids and the local state MP, Phil Donato, cutting the ribbon. Two years ago, brothers Mani and Manjit Singh and family bought the business formerly known as Jack’s Corner Store, on Moulder Street in the NSW Central Tablelands city of Orange. Since then the Singh family has continued to renovate and improve the offer. Mani reached out to SPAR earlier this year and began the process of rebranding the store to SPAR Express. SPAR Express Orange has expanded the grocery, dairy and frozen food ranges, including fresh produce and meat, and introducing a food-to-go solution. The store offers its customers friendly service and competitive pricing combined with convenient trading hours. Mani’s aim is to create a one-stop 26 CONVENIENCE WORLD SEP/OCT, 2020 shop for the community. He says its “customers’ perception is changing now, from seeing us as just a corner store, to a supermarket”. He adds that people have told him they no longer need to travel further to shop in a supermarket, “so they’re very happy with what we’re doing”. Asked about plans for the store, Mani says the aim is to expand the trading area and become a larger supermarket. “SPAR is a big chain and they see the opportunity here,” he said. “I want to set up this store properly and it will take time, but then I’d love to open another store around this area.” SPAR Express Orange is at 28 Moulder Street and trades seven days a week, Mondays to Saturdays from 6am to 7pm, and Sundays from 7am to 6pm. Locally owned and operated, SPAR Express Orange is part of the worldwide SPAR family with more than 13,300 SPAR stores in 48 countries meeting the needs of more than 14 million customers daily. SPAR promotes its “great service, a great range, low prices every day and specials that will save customers money”. Mani’s aim is to create a one-stop shop for the community. He says its “customers’ perception is changing now, from seeing us as just a corner store, to a supermarket”.
