COMMITMENT TO A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE Hussmann is highlighting its carbon-footprint reducing and environment protecting innovations as it improves the energy efficiency of its display cases and refrigeration systems while decreasing emissions By Hussmann Oceania Engineering General Manager Australia and Operations Director Vinney Kumar. Refrigeration energy loads in the convenience channel can account for up to one third of the energy consumption in a store. This leads to an increase in both costs of maintenance and fluorocarbon emissions with the potential of damaging the ozone layer if released into the atmosphere. Hussmann not only provides cutting edge and innovative products, but also the products that are backed with future proofing, contributing to sustainability. The need for energy efficiency and substantiality is therefore embedded into our design philosophy, offering cost efficiency in terms of installation and maintenance. With the excellent combination of knowledge and technology, complemented by manufacturing around the globe, this has led to progression in other areas well, ‘natural refrigerants’ being one of the most important. Hussmann considers energy efficiency as the topmost priority as it not only reduces costs but also supports the environment. One of our goals is to build an energy efficient commercial refrigeration unit that builds to a much higher standard of quality of air, with the effect that it lasts longer. One such range that clearly showcases our passion for retail combined with our approach towards sustainability is the H1P case, which includes the natural refrigerant propane (R290), causing less hydrofluorocarbons emission and contributing to the better ecoefficiency performance of the refrigeration cycle. The benefit of this case is far beyond monetary savings as it also assures that Hussmann works in an environmentally conscious manner and as one of the organisations that have played a major role in advancing the adoption of natural refrigerants in this country. We have already engaged with several new stores with the similar case line, H1, a popular chiller range in our portfolio supplied to a number of leading retailers. Our National Key Account Manager, Gregory Heath, has experienced these rising trends firsthand with increased demand for low-carbon cases as the retailers are realising the importance of sustainability and climate solutions. “The market is certainly transforming, and we’re adapting quickly with solutions,” Mr Heath said. For the new independent market, the H1T suite of cabinets offers a complete range for chilled, frozen, ambient and hot solutions, providing a seamless look within a convenience environment. We’ve been actively working on new projects that will ensure Hussmann is at the forefront of sustainability. We strive to develop innovative climate solutions to help create a better future. Our products undergo rigorous testing to ensure compliance and reliability while delivering the most energy efficient products. To move with the times, we’re introducing digital technology to our products to gather better data for smarter solutions. Hence, it’s correct to say that by innovating climate solutions for a sustainable future, Hussmann is ready to cater to the ever-changing needs of the retailer while ensuring consumer satisfaction. REFRIGERATION "We’ve been actively working on new projects that will ensure Hussmann is at the forefront of sustainability." About Hussmann Hussmann, with a history of refrigeration for more than 100 years, has been one of the leaders in refrigeration merchandising solutions. Harry Hussmann changed the way food was merchandised when he invented the first display case in 1917. The Panasonic acquisition in 2016 has elevated the Hussmann business even further with the introduction of new products and solutions to create a better life, a better world. With its variety of techniques and excellent combination of knowledge and technology, Hussmann caters to the evolving needs of the customer in the convenience industry.
