GARLO’S GOES ‘VEGAN APPROVED’ PLANT-BASED Garlo’s new Plant Based Pie is “completely vegan approved” and available in all Coles stores in NSW and Queensland from May 2020. The company says those looking to reduce red meat intake should try this “great tasting product, which tastes so similar to Garlo’s regular Lean Beef mince pie, you’ll be doing well to tell the difference”. Garlo’s is offering the new product as a limited edition. RRP: $4.50. MRS MAC’S EBM: ON-THE-GO PIE ‘PERFECTION’ The new Egg, Bacon & Mushroom Pie from Mrs Mac’s combines egg and bacon with “creamy” cheddar cheese and “fine and fresh” pieces of mushrooms and tomatoes, “all finished with a hint of onion and pepper”. It’s promoted as containing no added MSG, artificial colours or flavours, and using free range eggs. “Breakfast is the perfect opportunity to eat foods which are rich in B vitamins, folate, iron and fibre,” said Mrs Mac’s resident nutritionist Angela Caulfield, a member of the brand’s R&D team. “A well balanced breakfast should include a source of protein such as eggs, which are an excellent option as they contain all the essential amino acids as well as vitamins and minerals. Our Egg, Bacon & Mushroom Pie is the perfect on-the-go option, containing 15 per cent of the recommended daily intake of protein.” 38 CONVENIENCE WORLD MAY/JUN, 2020
