THE BEVERAGE GUIDE FROM PAGE 46 Addressing health and premiumisation In recent years, Sanpellegrino has introduced S.Pellegrino Essenza to the Australian market. This followed what was said to be strong international success across the US, Canada, UK and China. S.Pellegrino Essenza is described as a flavoured sparkling mineral water with a twist of Mediterranean fruit flavours crafted in S.Pellegrino bubbles. It’s available in the variants of Lemon & Lemon Zest, Tangerine & Wild Strawberry, and Dark Morello Cherry & Pomegranate. Two additional flavours are expected to be launched later this year. Sanpellegrino Brand Manager Damian Giorgini notes that the company has observed “shifting demand” away from sugar-filled carbonated products and towards healthier alternatives, particularly low and no sugar options. “According to a Nielsen study, Australian consumers are switching to perceived healthier alternatives at an accelerated rate,” he said. “For example, while carbonated soft drinks sales are declining, healthier options in the drinks category are all seeing growth.” By introducing S.Pellegrino Essenza, the brand believes it has “cleverly” tapped into the “ever-growing” trend. “With no sugars or sweeteners, zero calories, and prepared with natural flavours, S.Pellegrino Essenza is sure to have strong appeal among health- conscious consumers,” Mr Giorgini said. “We think our stockist partners will benefit from S.Pellegrino Essenza as consumers continue to seek out premium, flavourful drinks that can be enjoyed without compromising on their health.” Touching on the product’s packaging, Mr Giorgini says the slim, “eye catching” recyclable 330ml can was designed as part of Sanpellegrino’s new range of can designs. “The outer packaging has been beautifully crafted with metallic finishes,” he said, “adding to this premium product’s on-shelf appeal.” Nippy’s plants itself in new territory Nippy’s is entering the plant-based milk category with the launch of an oat milk range. The Australian made new product is claimed to be free of dairy, nuts, soy and GMOs, and contain no refined sugar. The brand promotes the benefits of oat milk as including: • Dairy free. “Low in fat and dairy free is an excellent choice for the lactose intolerant among us and provides a sweet taste. Those who have a gluten intolerance may need to be more careful. By nature, oats are gluten free but \\\\\\\[are\\\\\\\] often processed on the same equipment as gluten- containing grains. This contaminates the grains and may be enough to cause a reaction. \\\\\\\[It’s\\\\\\\] best to check the label for specific processing information before you do buy an oat milk product.” • High in fibre. “Oat milk has twice the dietary fibre than cow’s milk, making it an excellent choice for adding fibre to your diet for healthy gut and digestive functions. Specifically, beta glucan, a soluble fibre, strengthens the immune system. Regular consumption can prevent infection and improves the body’s ability to naturally heal itself.” • High in vitamins. “Oat milk contains B vitamins thiamine and folate, supporting the breakdown of carbohydrates (thiamine) for energy, and normal function for red blood cells (folate).” • Replaces saturated fats with unsaturated fats. “With zero saturated fats and a total of 2.5g of fat per serving, this is one super vegan milk product. Everyday whole milk contains around 8g of fat and 5g of saturated fat. With minimal fat in each serving, it makes oat milk very low calorie and perfect for those watching what they eat for their own training and dietary requirements.” • Cholesterol free. “A dairy free product, oat milk contains zero cholesterol. Regular consumption may even lower bad cholesterol, or LDL, in the blood. Excessive cholesterol promotes build-up of LDL or low-density lipoproteins in arteries, leading to atherosclerosis, a precursor of cardiovascular disease. So, for every serving of regular milk you replace with oat milk, you’re reducing your daily cholesterol intake by 24mg.” • Regulates blood sugar levels. “Beta glucan, the soluble fibre, slows down the absorption of carbohydrates in the gut, providing a slower and steadier supply of sugar into the blood stream. An excellent and very healthy choice for type 2 diabetes patients looking to help regulate their blood sugar.” • Bone-strengthening minerals. “The minerals potassium, magnesium and zinc are all included in this super vegetable milk. All three minerals are important for micronutrients for the strengthening and formation of healthy bones.” Nippy’s oat milk is due for release in 48 CONVENIENCE WORLD MAY/JUN, 2021 mid to late June.
