Which state is leading the EV race?

A new report from Zutobi has revealed the territories in Australia that are best equipped to become fully electric.

By calculating the sales of electric vehicles along with the total number of public charging stations, the report has found that New South Wales is the best area in Australia, to own and drive an EV.

NSW has beaten the rest of the country by a mile to take the top spot with a total score of 8.67. It had the highest number of EVs sold in 2019, the highest number of EVs registered and the most public charging stations in the country.

Today, the NSW Government’s EV Strategy passed through parliament. The Strategy commits $490 million towards EVs through rebates and the installation of ultra-fast EV chargers across the state.

According to Zutobi’s findings, NSW lags behind other states in terms of EVs sold per 10,000 vehicle sales. The Australian Capital Territory took the lead here with 83, followed by South Australia (61), Tasmania (32) and Victoria (27).

The ACT has just 50 public charging stations for the 523 EVs registered in the territory, making it the area with the highest numbers of EVs per charger.
