WEX and Mastercard have announced a strategic partnership set to simplify fleet management operations and modernise fleet payments across Asia-Pacific. The strategic partnership marks a first-of-its-kind initiative in the region that will drive the next-generation payments infrastructure by bringing together universal fuel, vehicle fleet maintenance, tolling, parking and more, in a single payment experience. The program is projected to process billions of dollars in annual transactions as it expands across key regional markets.
This collaboration combines Mastercard’s global network, which processed 175 billion transactions in 2025[1], with WEX’s standing as “one of the world’s leading” issuers of virtual cards for travel payments and 40-plus years of fleet management expertise. For fleet managers, fuel, maintenance, tolling and parking costs often sit across separate payment systems, making it difficult to see the full picture and creating extra work to reconcile bills. The partnership is designed to change that, helping drive daily efficiency and growth.
Driving efficiency in the world’s fastest-growing fleet market
This strategic partnership arrives as Asia-Pacific emerges as the fastest-growing fleet management region globally[2]. Fleet-card transaction volumes in the region are estimated at approximately US$310 billion (A$435 billion) in 2025, accounting for 31% of global volumes, and are projected to grow at 14.3% a year through 2030[3].
Despite this rapid expansion, fleet management operators across the region continue to face friction driven by fragmented data and siloed, legacy payment systems.
“In 2026, the competitive advantage for fleets is found in simplicity. WEX is already a global pioneer in travel and corporate virtual payments; by joining forces with Mastercard in this new capacity, we are bringing that same engine of innovation to the APAC mobility sector,” said Matt Arthur, Vice President and General Manager, APAC Mobility at WEX.
“For decades, fleets have used one card for fuel and a patchwork of systems for everything else, leaving fleet managers to stitch it all together. This strategic partnership creates a smarter infrastructure that allows our customers to manage the transition to hybrid fleets and navigate economic volatility with total visibility over their operations.”
Pillars of the strategic partnership
The strategic partnership focuses on three core pillars designed to future-proof Asia-Pacific businesses:
- Unified payments and data infrastructure: An integrated experience that replaces fragmented legacy systems, and unifies traditional fleet costs like fuel, maintenance, tolling, and parking with broader business expenses into one cohesive view.
- Actionable intelligence and control: Eliminating administrative friction with real-time, configurable spend controls and automated insights embedded directly into business workflows, as well as enabling reporting controls on line-item-level data like fuel types and litres.
- Future-ready mixed-energy fleet: Delivering integrated solutions that allow businesses to manage traditional fuel, hybrid, and electric vehicles under a single account with one consolidated invoice.
“Transportation is a critical growth engine. It sits at the center of how people and goods move, especially in a diverse region like Asia-Pacific,” said Anouska Ladds, Executive Vice President, Commercial and New Payment Flows, Asia Pacific, Mastercard.
“Our collaboration with WEX is an essential example of how we scale with impact. By combining our global network with their deep industry expertise, we’re helping businesses move faster, operate smarter and prepare for what’s next. Together, we’re setting a new standard for a future-ready mobility ecosystem.”
This collaboration expands on a decades-long relationship with Mastercard, building on WEX’s position as “number one” globally in volume of virtual card travel payments – powering 50% of all virtual card payments in the travel sector[4].
In 2025, WEX processed more than US$237 billion in total volume across its global commerce platform[5], reflecting the extensive scale and trust built in part through its long-standing co-innovation with Mastercard.
