Wait time is longer but shoppers are willing

Australian shoppers are experiencing longer wait times due to social distancing regulations, says a Shopper Media study.

“The latest Shopper Study reveals that higher numbers of shoppers, combined with the need to socially distance, has led to an increase in waiting times, with 50% of Australian shoppers queuing before entering the supermarket,” says Head of Marketing at Shopper Media, Karissa Fletcher.

“These figures support the fact that shopping centres remain essential for Australian consumers’ and as a result they are willing to wait to get what they need.”

Waiting time facts

  • Across the states, more than 50% of Australian shopper confirmed they have waited for less than 10 minutes.
  • 27% of shoppers in South Australia and Tasmania report waiting longer than 20 minutes.
  • 26% of Queenslanders also waited longer than 20 minutes.
  • The longer waiting times are being recorded on Fridays, Mondays and Tuesdays.

“With these figures in mind, Shopper Media wants to remind customers of the importance of remaining socially distanced,” explains Ms Fletcher.

“While shoppers are being patient, as seen through the increase in waiting times, we need to remember to keep our distance, especially as coronavirus cases are expected to spike as restrictions are eased.”
