‘sMart Lock’ recognised at Australia’s International Good Design Awards

The winners of Australia’s peak international design awards were announced during the 2021 Good Design Awards Week this month.

The Good Design Awards are the highest honour for design and innovation in the country and reward projects across 12 design disciplines and 30 subcategories.

TDMN developed sMart Lock, an innovative trolley management system that allows retailers to track, locate and retrieve their trolley fleet. It also provides patrons with incentives for returns.

sMart Lock received a prestigious Good Design Award winner accolade in the ‘product design’ category in recognition for outstanding design and innovation.

The Good Design Awards Jury commented: “An innovative approach to tracking and finding supermarket trolleys. Leveraging our comfort with using QR codes is clever, as is the capability for stores to locate their trolleys. Movement to cashless economies is also a factor that the design addresses, as is the cost (environmental and economic) of lost trolleys. The app provides behaviour design elements to incentivise trolley returns. It’s an interesting solution to the ever-present trolley everywhere! Overall, this is a really impressive example of design that solves a real problem and a standout project that ticks every box for good design in this category. Well done.”
