Peregrine brings Guzman y Gomez to SA

The Mexican fast-food restaurant chain Guzman y Gomez (GYG) opened its first South Australian store last week in partnership with Peregrine Corporation, which will be working alongside GYG to manage the business.

The flagship store is located on King William Street in the centre of Adelaide on two levels. GYG says the store features a modern design and high-tech flourishes, creating a fresh dining experience for hungry locals.

Guests will be treated to a GYG experience with “all the trimmings”, including cutlery, plates and table service. With upstairs seating, the food will be transported via a dumbwaiter, and beacon table locators will allow for quick meal delivery.

The move comes as part of GYG’s push to “reinvent fast food for the 21st century” and to meet what it claims is overwhelming demand from residents.

“Our Facebook page has been inundated with people asking when we’ll open a store in South Australia – our customers have spoken and we’ve listened,” GYG founder Steven Marks said.

Peregrine Corporation Chief Operating Officer Peter Piliouras said: “We love the flavour and the fun of GYG and are looking forward to sharing this with all Adelaideans.

“We’re proudly employing 50 South Australians at 33 King William Street, on top of the 1,000 jobs that Peregrine Corporation has created in the past two years, as well as the $100 million we’ve invested into the state.”

GYG operates more than 80 taquerias and drive-through restaurants in Australia, Singapore and Japan, 80 per cent of which are franchised.
