Family run 7-Eleven store opens in Phillip

Second generation franchisee Tehmeena Khan and her husband proudly opened the new 7-Eleven store at 86 Parramatta Street, Phillip.

The family owned and operated store will see the Khans and their son work in the store, alongside five locals who are joining the team.

“We are so proud to be opening 7-Eleven Phillip with our fantastic local team to help us serve the local community. We had more than 200 applications to work with us in just 24 hours with many people in the local community looking for new jobs or extra hours due to the COVID19 situation. There were some fantastic applications, but the five people who are joining the team were exceptional candidates,” Mrs Khan said.

Mrs Khan helped in her father’s store at Jesmond, Newcastle 30 years ago, and more recently she has worked with her brother and now fellow franchisee Nouman’s Bankstown store.

“I’ve worked in the 7-Eleven system before, both with my father when I was young and more recently in my brother’s store. I’ve run a café, and another franchise business but I was really drawn to 7-Eleven, and I’m excited about the challenge of establishing a brand new store in the local community.”

The family is looking forward to becoming part of the local community.

“We were drawn to Canberra, it’s a lovely city for our family and the traffic will be much better than in Sydney. Our two youngest children will be starting school locally when they reopen, and our eldest is hoping to transfer to ANU,” she said.

The new store will feature the products and services customers expect to see from 7-Eleven.

Customers will be able to shop and fill up the car 24/7, with a good range of everyday essentials available. There’s a large range of fresh food, coffee and treat options to choose from. From the classic hot pastries and handmade, delivered daily, sandwiches, to newer options such as the salad and sushi range, there’s something for everyone. The new store will have 7-Eleven’s $1 freshly ground coffee, Slurpee including Slurpee Low Sugar options, and the popular Krispy Kreme Doughnuts.

Customers at the store are encouraged to recycle any single use cups.

“We partner with Simply Cups. We’ve helped them to recycle more than 10 million cups since early 2018. We’d encourage everyone to use our Simply Cups recycling unit to recycle any single use cups or straws,” Mrs Khan said.

The Phillip store will offer Mobil brand fuels including Supreme 98, Extra 95, Special E10, Special Unleaded 91 and Special Diesel.
