BP offering fuel for Qantas Points

BP and Qantas Frequent Flyer have expanded their partnership, allowing members to use Qantas Points at participating BP service stations.

In a program first, members can use their points in-store on fuel and eligible purchases over $10 (or 1900 Qantas Points), using new Reward Code technology.

For example, a member can fill up a $50 tank of fuel and instead of cash, use 9500 Qantas Points.

Members can already earn Qantas Points at BP service stations. According to the retailer, billions of Qantas Points have been earned through the partnership over the last two years. Frequent flyers are said to be earning Qantas Points at BP every four seconds.

When using Qantas Points for fuel or in-store purchases, members will also earn Qantas Points at the same rate as when paying with cash. Members will continue to earn up to two Qantas Points per litre of fuel, and one Qantas Point per $1 spent on eligible in-store purchases, when they choose to earn Qantas Points in their BP Rewards account.

Qantas Loyalty CEO Olivia Wirth says the company knows frequent flyers are always looking for new ways to earn and use points.

“With so many members already earning points at BP,” she says, “we anticipate that providing greater flexibility in how they can use their points will be welcomed.”

About the Reward Code technology

New Reward Code technology has been developed specifically to facilitate in-store purchases using Qantas Points and is being piloted at BP service stations.

The Reward Code technology will allow members to use their Qantas Points “securely” by scanning their digital Frequent Flyer Card.

“We’re excited to deepen our partnership with BP, integrating this new Reward Code technology which will revolutionise the way members will be able to use their Qantas Points,” says Ms Wirth. “It will deliver a seamless experience for using points on every day in-store purchases.”
